The Phantom hopes of going out on top fall short on Sunday, as Howies defeated the Phantoms 9-2 in the Silver Championship game. The victory marks the second straight Silver Season that Howies has defeated the Phantoms in the championship game. Despite the Phantoms playing a great opening period, Howies would begin to take over control in the second period as six goals by the former Calvin College kids would see the defending champs clib into an 8-0 lead after two periods. Despite a pair of goals in the third period by the Phantom's Norm Farr (assists to Brad Brooks and Chris Benedict on the first and Brad Brooks on the second), the hole would be too big to overcome as the Phantoms fall for the third straight time this season to Howies by the final of 9-2. On the game, Howies out shot the Phantoms 34-28. The Phantoms were ticketed with three minors for six minutes during the contest, while Howies escaped without a single minor. The Phantoms played without the services of Scott Vandonkelaar, who was out of town due to vacation. The game singled the final curtain call for the Silver edition of Phantom Hockey, as the team will not return to action for next season.
