The West Michigan Phantoms were able to capture the franchises seventh bronze play-off victory in nine contests on Sunday, as the team used a trio of goals in the third period to climb ahead of the Junkyard Dawgs by the final of 5-2.  The Phantoms, who entered the contest having won the previous three encounters against their Cedar Rock foes, were able to take the fourth straight clash and improve to 4-2 overall against the Junkyard Dawgs.  The victory on Sunday began another play-off push for the Phantoms, who entered this post-season tied with the Donkey Punch as the highest seed after the Turkeys were not allowed to take part in the play-off hunt.  The Phantoms and Dawgs would wait until the trailing stages of the opening period before either team would notch a scoreboard tally.  With 3:17 remaining in the period, the Junkyard Dawgs would open the scoring on a crash-the-net play.  A mere 1:02 later, the Phantoms would answer right back as Tim Vanoverloop would set up Brad Zehr for his fifth goal of the season.  Both teams would remain tied 1-1 after an opening period in which the Phantoms out shot the Dawgs 7-4.  The Phantoms would take just more than eight minutes of the second period to capture their first lead of the night, as Trent Kik would set up his Silver teammate Brad Zehr for his second of the night and a 2-1 Phantom lead.  That Zehr lamp lighter would be the only goal scored during the second period as the tight defensive game would continue.  During the middle frame, both teams registered five shots on goal.  With the Phantoms nursing a slim single goal lead after two periods, the team forced on the final 16 minutes and received the energy boost they needed to take charge in the final period.  Just 40-seconds into the final frame, the Phantoms would net what would ultimately come down as the game-winner.  Tim Czycyk would tally his eighth of the season, as Timmy would be set-up from Chuck McCloud and Matt Mead.  Just shy of two minutes later, the Junkyard Dawgs would strike with their second goal of the night to narrow the Phantom lead to 3-2.  However, the Phantoms would not be phrased as the Yellow and Black would continue in their pursuit of doggie death.  With 12:23 remaining in the game, Tim Vanoverloop would set up Trent Kik for his fifth of the season, giving the Phantoms a healthy 4-2 lead.  Jason Schemmel would put the icing on the win with 1:08 remaining, as the die-hard Wings fan would shake off the frustration of the 8-0 defeat to Nashville the night before and seal the Phantom victory with an empty net goal to lock-in the Phantom win at 5-2.  On the game, the Phantoms out shot the Junkyard Dawgs 22-14.  The Phantoms were ticketed with a single minor for two minutes, while the Dawgs were a bit nippy with four minors for eight minutes.  The Phantoms played without the services of Darren Skuse who had previous arrangements in Muskegon with the Lumberjacks.  The Phantoms will return to action on March 8 to tangle with the Hawks.  One post-season ago, the Phantom suffered a 7-4 defeat against the Hawks to end their championship hopes.  Game time for the March 8th contest is set for 6:00pm.
