The Phantom Boys of Bronze continued their climb in the Bronze standings on Sunday, as the team defeated K-Ortegal by the final of 9-2. The victory improves the team's record to 4-3-1 on the season and keeps the team near the top of the league. On Sunday, seven different Phantom marksmen registered goals, including Brett Smith and Jason Schemmel with a pair each. The Phantom's broke the scoreless duel 6:20 into the contest as Justin Calkins received a sweet-dish-feed from Tim Vanoverloop to put the Yellow Shirts on the board. Roughly five minutes later, Matt Mead would set up Chad Manning with a perfect point shot that penetrated the Ortegal netminder to lift the Phantoms into a 2-0 lead. That score would remain intact 4:16 into the second period when the Phantoms again lit the lamp to further their lead. This time Tim Vanoverloop would set up Matt Mead for his first of the night and a 3-0 Phantom lead. Minutes later with 9:12 remaining in the second period, K-Ortegal would net their first of two goals on the night as a turnover in the Phantom neutral would yield a shot from inside the Phantom circle to the right of the netminder Wootton. That shot would manage to slip short side by the Phantom netminder and into the back of the net. With K-Ortegal on the board, they would begin to display some pressure deep inside the Phantom zone for a several minute stretch, however, they would not be able to get very many shots directed toward the Phantom goal. The Phantoms would regroup the troop late in the second period and again shift momentum back into their hands. With 1:11 remaining in the middle stanza, Tim Czycyk would net an unassisted strike to close out the second period with the Phantoms on top 4-1. In the third period, the Phantom offense would crank up production with four goals in the span of 3:43 to mushroom into an 8-1 lead. Tim Vanoverloop would begin the assault from a Jason Schemmel pass with 9:34 remaining in the period. That display of Phantom might would continue on a Jason Schemmel (assist to Chad Manning) strike seconds later followed by a Tim Czycyk to Brett Smith goal roughly two minutes later. Brett Smith would record his second goal of the night 54 seconds later (assisted by Tim Czycyk and Darren Skuse) to complete the four-goal blast. K-Ortegal would again manage to make Phantom netminder Kevin Wootton look like a rookie, as a shot from near the red line would find the back of the net with 4:41 remaining in the game. The Hasek-Like-Goof from Wootton would trim the contest to an 8-2 advantage for the Phantoms. With time running out on the clock, the Phantom's Jason Schemmel would record his second of the night with a blast at the 15:50 mark of the third period to complete the scoring and giving the Phantoms a 9-2 victory.
