The Phantom's fought back twice on Sunday and used a Brad Zehr strike with 3:54 remaining in regulation to defeat the Missiles and clinch a birth to the Silver Championship game. Despite the Phantoms playing another game with just six skaters and a netminder, the Phantoms never gave up and in fact continued the same high-velocity pressure from the beginning to the end to defeat the Missiles by the final of 6-5. The Phantoms peppered the Missiles goalie with 11 shots in the opening period, not including several strikes to the goal posts but were unable to bury a single puck past the Missile netminder in the opening period. The Missiles would open the games scoring with 6:52 remaining in the opening to steal a 1-0 lead after one. In the second period, the Phantoms continued to be stonewalled in the early stages of the period by the outstanding netminding of the Missiles Caleb Kaiser. The Missiles would capture a two-grip 4:35 into the second as the Missiles Scott Haskin netted his second of the night to increase the lead to 2-0. As mentioned, the Phantoms would not be phased. Brad Zehr would put the Phantoms on the board mid-way in the period to trim the Missiles lead to 2-1. However, despite the pressure by the Phantoms, the Missiles would regain the two-goal grip with a mere 21 seconds remaining in the middle stanza to climb into a 3-1 lead. The Phantoms continued to press the issue not to change anything on the style of play during the intermission. The team was getting its chances and knew that eventually their chances would pay off. In the third period, with the Phantoms facing elimination from the championship game, those chances began to pay-off. The Phantoms would mount their attack and combine to capture two goals within the periods first 5:04 to tie the game at 3-3. Chris Benedict would begin the comeback off a Brad Zehr feed to narrow the lead to 3-2 and Brad Zehr would connect off a Nate Tyler feed to tie the game at 3-3. Minutes following the Phantom game-tying goal, the Missiles would have a glorious chance to regain the lead on a two on one play which would be denied by the cross-bar of the Phantom goal. The ensuing play would allow Brad Zehr to capture puck control in the Phantom corner and send a feed to Chris Benedict stationed near the Phantom bench. The Benedict charge up the wing would create a two-on-zero breakaway for the Phantoms and the first season Phantom star would send the biscuit over to a wide open Scott VanDonkelaar who would bury the puck top-self on the Missiles netminder giving the Phantoms their first lead of the night at 4-3. Roughly 1:18 following the Phantom go-ahead goal, the Missiles would take a shot near the red line and the puck would direct off a Phantom defensemen stick just feet away from the goal and head into the net to tie the game at 4-4. Less than two minutes later, the Missiles would regain the lead at 5-4 with a goal with 7:06 remaining in the period. However, the Phantoms would not roll over and die. Chris Benedict would breath some life back into the Phantoms 55 seconds following the Missile goal to again create the comeback by the Phantoms. With the game tied at 5-5, the Phantoms would continue their fierce pressure and that pressure would pay off with 3:54 remaining in the game as Gordie Anderson set up Brad Zehr for a goal, reinstalling the Phantom lead at 6-5. The Missiles, with their netminder pulled, would apply pressure deep inside the Phantom zone during the final minutes, however the Phantoms would stand strong and capture the victory 6-5. The victory by the Phantoms punches the ticket for a return to the championship game, which will take place on Sunday, June 22nd. In doing so, the Phantoms victory puts the Phantoms into the Silver championship game for the third time in the teams five-season history at Lazerskate. The Phantoms will look to capture the teams fourth league championship on June 22 and their second at Lazerskate. The Phantoms will of course have a very tough road ahead of them, as Howie's will be the teams opponent for the championship. On the game, the Phantoms out-shot the Missiles 30-20. The Phantoms were ticketed for the games only minor for two minutes. The Phantoms played without the services of Casey Rosenberg and Matt Zehr.
