The West Michigan Phantoms captured their second consecutive victory on Sunday, as the Men of Phantom Nation paid tribute to mom with a decisive 12-2 victory over the Missiles.  The victory would be the third straight over the Missiles this season, as the Phantoms capture the season series 3-0 and improved their overall record to 6-3.  Despite the Phantoms having a very short bench of only six skaters, the Phantoms played an excellent game coming away with their first mercy of the season.  In keeping with the tradition that the team set earlier in the season, the Phantoms surrendered the games first goal 50 seconds into the contest as the Missiles climbed into a 1-0 lead.  However, as displayed countless times already the Phantoms came back and evened the contest at one goal apiece 1:34 later as Scott Vandonkelaar (Assists to Gordie Anderson, Trent Kik) slid the first of many Phantom goals into the back of the net.  The Phantoms would take the first lead of the night with 6:14 remaining in the period as Casey Rosenberg (Assist: Chris Benedict) brought the Phantoms into a 2-1 lead.  With time running down in the opening stanza, Chris Benedict (unassisted) would capture what would become the game-winning goal with 2:35 left in the period to increase the lead to 3-1.  In the second, the Phantoms continued where they left off.  Long-time Veteran player Gordie Anderson would increase his goal scoring streak to two games 50 seconds into the period (assists Trent Kik and Scott Vandonkelaar) to mount the Phantom brigade a 4-1 lead.  The Phantom assault on the Missiles would be paused 2:56 later as the Missiles would capitalize on a Casey Rosenberg-Phantom penalty to trip the Phantom lead to 4-2.  However, the Phantoms would not only respond, they would ignite as the Phantom crew answered with four more goals in the second period, including two in the final minute of the period to jump into a 8-2 lead.  That four-goal ignition was spearheaded with goals from Chris Benedict (unassisted), Casey Rosenberg (Assist Chris Benedict), Gordie Anderson (assists: Chris Benedict, Scott Vandonkelaar) and Casey Rosenberg (unassisted).  In the third period, the Phantoms would continue their dominance with another four goal outburst on goals from Chris Benedict (unassisted), Chris Benedict (Assists: Casey Rosenberg, Trent Kik), Gordie Anderson (Assists: Casey Rosenberg, Scott Vandonkelaar) and Trent Kik (Assists: Chris Benedict, Casey Rosenberg).  As mentioned, the victory improves the teams record to 6-3.  The Phantoms played without many players during the contest.  Matt Zehr was scratched, as he remains on the teams IR recovering from a hit one-week ago against the Red Devils.  Mike Devore was out of action due to a weekend outing in Detroit, Ty Coon remained on the IR list, Nate Tyler was serving his single game suspension and netminder Kevin Wootton was out of commission as a result of guiding an empty coal train from Holland into Chicago, Il.  For Wootton, the break was needed as the netminder continues to be day-to-day with an on-going injury.  Jeff Pacific debuted for the first time this season for the Phantoms in goal, as the longtime Bronze league and Silver netminder turned aside 17 of 19 shots on goal.  The Phantoms would like to congratulate Jeff on a great game and would like to express gratitude in guarding the pipes for the longest-consecutively-operating in-line team in West Michigan.  On the game, the Phantoms out-shot the Missiles 41-19.  The Phantoms tallied only one penalty during the game for two minutes.  The Missiles were tallied with three minors for six minutes on the night.  The team will return to action on Sunday to close out the regular season against Howies.
