The West Michigan Phantoms used three goals in the third period from Chris Benedict to break a 2-2 tie to power the Phantoms over the Red Devils by the final of 5-2 on Sunday. The Phantom victory marks the first time this season that the Men of Phantom Nation have climbed above the .500 mark and currently sit with a 3-2 overall record.  The Phantoms have been brilliant since the addition of Chris Benedict to the line-up and it appears that the recently appointed captain of the Phantoms has started to rub off on the rest of the team.  The Phantoms wasted only 1:43 to get onto the board as Brad Zehr received a Trent Kik feed to give the Phantoms an early 1-0 lead.  The entire first period would be a great defensive contest between two teams that usually have a lot of hostility directed towards each other.  The Red Devils managed to get onto the board late in the opening period as the Red Devils late period pressure would pay off as the puck would rebound off the Phantom netminder and right to an uncovered Devil forward and with a quick flip of the rest the game would be knotted at 1-1.  In the second period the Red Devils would steal the lead on a slow-motion shot that trickled across the goal-line for a 2-1 Devils lead.  With the clock running down, the Phantoms Brad Zehr would jump off the bench and Scott Vandonkelear would send the Phantom veteran a cross-rink pass and Brad would turn on his skate blades and charge into the Red Devil zone and deke the puck past the goaltender with eight seconds remaining in the period tying the game at 2-2.  In the third period, the Phantoms would begin to turn up the heat as Casey Rosenberg would dish the biscuit to Mike Devore and another dish to Chris Benedict and Benny would put the puck home and give the Phantoms a 3-2 lead, a lead that they would not relinquish.  Roughly ten minutes later, the Phantoms would put a power-play unit out as the Red Devils would be ticketed with a hooking infraction.  It would take just 29 seconds for the powerplay unit to come through, as Brad Zehr would head-man the puck up to Casey Rosenberg on the Phantom left wing and Casey would send the puck across to the rink to an awaiting Chris Benedict.  With Benedict falling, the Navyman would unleash a cannon into the back of the net spearheading the Phantoms to a 4-2 lead.  As if the Red Devils would stubern to learn their lesson, the team would again be called for a penalty with a mere 2:08 remaining in the contest.  The Phantom power-play unit would again waste no time as Chris Benedict would complete the hat-trick on a powerplay strike just eight seconds into the extra-man-band giving the Phantoms a commanding 5-2 lead.  The Phantom defense and offense would not back down as the Phantoms would hold onto the lead and capture the victory 5-2.  The Phantoms were led by Chris Benedict with three goals on the night.  Brad Zehr would complete the game with a pair of goals and an assist for the Muskegon native.  Casey Rosenberg would tally two assists, while Mike Devore and Scott Vandonkelear would complete the night with a single assist each.  The Phantoms out-shot the Red Devils 34-17.  The Phantoms would be ticketed for 14 minutes in penalties on two minors and a ten-minute misconduct.  The Red Devils were called on three penalties for six minutes.  The Phantoms played at the 10-man limit, Ty Coon, Brian Doctor and Derek Reid would be scratched for the Phantoms.
