The Phantoms received an early Christmas gift on Sunday, a 5-4 victory over the Ghostbusters to truncate and negate a five-game-losing-skid. Despite allowing the Ghostbusters to seize a rather large 3-0 lead by the mid-point of the opening period, the Phantoms would respond as Jason Devroy and Gordie Anderson would each strike with a pair of goals just 1:09 apart to close out the opening stanza trailing 3-2. During the second period, the Phantoms would continue to fight back as Matt Myers would knock home a goal just 54 seconds into the period to tie the game at 3-3. Minutes later, Phantom Star Casey Rosenberg would bring the Phantoms into their first lead of the night, as Rosey would strike with 9:16 remaining in the period to bring the Yellow Shirts to a 4-3 advantage. In the third period, the Ghostbusters would tie the game at 4-4 with a strike mid-way into the final period. Yet, roughly five minutes later the Phantom's Jason Devroy would strike with his second of the night to regain a single goal grip over the Ghostbusters at 5-4. Despite the Ghostbusters out shooting the Phantoms 12-8 in the final period, their hope to achieve an overtime contest would be denied, as the Phantoms capture the victory 5-4. On the game, the Phantoms would be outshot 34-22. The Phantoms would be ticketed with five penalties, all of which were minors for 10 minutes. For the Ghostbusters, they would receive three penalties for 6 minutes. A Ghostbuster player would be banished with a mere 6 seconds remaining in the third period for a Gross Misconduct penalty in which he completed freight trained the Phantom's Gordie Anderson into the boards. The intent to injure check was deemed seriously enough to not only banish the player for the remaining seconds of the game, but to banish him for the remaining 7 games of the season.
