In the wide world of sports there is a several great quotes. One of those quotes is 'You Win Some and You Lose Some.' But for the Phantoms this season it is almost as if the team tries to find anyway possible to lose a game. On Sunday Night, the Phantoms squandered two separate two goal leads to suffer their fourth loss of the season and their four loss in a row falling to the Red Devils 5-4. In a very high penalized game, 44 total minutes between both teams, the Phantoms remained the most disciplined between the two teams with only 19 total minutes. Despite the advantage in power-plays, the Phantoms would not be able to make the power play as useful as they would hope. This season, it would appear that the Phantoms are cursed below the five-minute-mark in every period, as the Red Devils would tally three of their five goals below that mark, including two strikes in the third period alone. The Phantoms and Devils would remind tied after the opening period at 1-1, with Phantom strike from Casey Rosenberg. Following the second period, both clubs would again be tied at 3-3, on Phantom goals from newcomer Jason Devroy and Ty Coon. During the third period, the Phantoms would jump into 4-3 lead on a goal from Casey Rosenberg with only 7:42 remaining. Yet, as mentioned the Phantom curse would begin to take over as the Red Devils would tally goals with a mere 3:50 and 2:00 remaining to jump into their first lead of the night, a lead that despite a last-ditch effort by the Phantoms to pull their goalie, would stand. As mentioned, several trips to the sin-bin would occur during the contest. For the contest, the Phantoms would be ticketed with 7 penalties for 19 minutes, including Nate Tyler being ejected, while the Red Devils would be ticketed for 10 penalties for 25 minutes, including Jared Newville being banished for fighting. Phantom star Casey Rosenberg and Red Devil player Brian White would each be ticketed with a double minor for a double rough late in the game. Despite the loss, the Phantoms managed to finally begin to put pucks on net as both teams finished the contest with 22 shots on goal. The Phantoms were without the services of Mike Shaver, Brandon Whalen and Brad Zehr. The team will return to action next Sunday at 5:00pm against the GVSU-A Team.
