The seven game streak of being outshot by the opponents has come to an end for the Phantoms. On Sunday Night, the Yellow Shirts capped the shooting contest 25-23, ending a skid in which despite victories, created seven straight games in which the defending champions were outshot. Despite no goal scoring in the opening stanza by either team, the Phantoms erupted for three goals in the middle period, with Brian Doctor returning to action and leading the Phantom charge to break that 0-0 tie and skate into the third period with a 3-1 advantage. Team Shortbus would manage to take 10 shots during the final period in hopes to radiate back from the jaws of defeat, yet only one strike would find the back of the Phantom net and with two more goals from the defending champions, Team Shortbus hopes of defeating the Phantoms would again fall short. The Phantoms took claim to their seventh victory of the season and complete the 10-week regular season derby with an excellent mark of 7-3, good for sole control of second place. With the Phantom victory, the team takes claim to its third out of five series sweeps this season. The Revolution, Rouge River and now Team Shortbus all remaining winless this regular season against the Phantoms. As mentioned, the Phantoms received the games opening strike from Brian Doctor in the second period, another with Andy Roseart and Ty Coon. Casey Rosenberg and Andy Roseart each tallied goals during the final period. Both the Phantoms and Team Shortbus were cited for two minors each, good for 4:00 minutes in penalties for each club. Again, the Phantoms outshot Team Shortbus 25-23 during the contest. The Phantoms played without the services of Trent Kik (vacation), Matt Zehr (vacation), Brad Zehr (vacation), Derek Reid (unavailable). Eric Maxwell received another start of the Phantoms. With new wheels that are made for indoor hockey, Eric is beginning to look like the top-notch player he is. The Phantoms will return to action next Sunday at 2:00pm against Rogue River in opening round play-off action. Phantom Hockey...We Are The Phantoms!
