This Sunday will mark the end of the Phantoms 37th season.  As we enter the final game of the season, 621 games have been played under the Phantom banner and we will complete this Summer 2014 season with an impressive 622 games played.  While this Summer season did not go as planned and if you would have asked me at the beginning of the season if I would have thought we would be entering the final game of the season trying to avoid the O-fer, I would have just laughed at you.  However, despite all of the loses, one thing that surprises me is just how close and fun this team continues to be even with no victories on the season.  We have played against some of the greatest talent we have faced in our previous 36 seasons this season and as a result we have struggled.  We enter the final game of the season as the fourth lowest scoring team in the circuit and enter the final game as the worst defensive teamtwo stats that in the history of the Phantoms usually see us among the best.  Regardless of if it was the junior players home for summer, the college players home from summer or just a bunch of guys able to reunite a team for a short 11-game season, one thing that none of the other teams in the league have is the friendship, dedication and history that all of us share as members of the Phantoms.  I would like to say thanks to Erik Stapleton (friend of Chris Laux) who was able to play much of the season to fill in the void left by Dominick Minasola.  It is not always easy joining a team mid-season especially when the team struggled what seems like every game it played.  However, your positive attitude and great play was right at home on the Phantom squad.  For the balance of the team, it was yet another season of what we have experienced for several yearsfun, nights at Beer30 following the game, large parties on weekends (and on Wednesdays for some) and of course another very successful PhantomFest.  As we look forward to another season with countless events already planned, I look forward to the month of September, when the team will officially become 12 years old.  I look at Matt Zehr and Brad Zehr and ask, who would have thought this team would have lasted 12 years from the start, survived the span of four terms of United States Presidents, shifted from Inline to Ice Hockey and been apart of three different rinks?  622 games played stands as a true accomplishment to everyone who has worn the Phantom sweater.  Well Played Boys.

As we look forward to our 38th season, we will miss the services of Erik Stapleton who will return to college, however, we welcome back the services of Matt Myers and welcome new defensemen Dave Harper to the team.  The Winter season will hopefully return us to the league in which we are best fit for, playing against teams such as Deke Squad, Agape and Bobs Bar.  One thing that will not change, is the great time all of us share together not only on the rink, but outside of the rink at parties, Charity Games, Road Trips and much more.  The motto of the Phantoms has been The Fun Starts Here for the past couple of years.  As I look back at this season and onward to the next, I agree that this Phantom team has a lot of fun and that is why we continue to stand strong and stand together after 12 years.
