The defending champions were able to extend their winning streak to six games dating back to last season on Sunday Night, as the Yellow Shirts used a five-goal third period performance to put away Pioneer and skate away with an 8-2 victory.  The victory improves the Phantoms record in this Winter 2012 season to 3-0 and keeps them tied with Auto-Fix-It (AFI) as the lone undefeated teams this season, as AFI defeated WM Masonry on Sunday.  The Phantoms Sean Wert would net his fourth goal of the season seven minutes into the opening period, as the former Rouge River stand-out would cap an unassisted strike to put the Yellow Shirts in front at 1-0.  Less than three minutes later, Kyle Clark would stage his third goal of the young campaign (assisted by Trent Kik and Todd Vanderlaan) to increase the visitors lead to 2-0.  In the second period, the Phantoms would run into a sloppy and challenging period, as a sluggish effort would also the Pioneers to register two goals in the final seven minutes against the Phantoms to erase the deficit and deadlock the duel at 2-2.  With just 17 seconds remaining, the Phantoms Keith Moorman would manage to restore the Phantom lead at 3-2, as a centering pass would allow the Greenville, Ohio native to send the puck five-hole and between the legs of the netminder to push the Phantoms into a lead after two periods (assisted by Chad Manning and Trent Kik).  In the third period, the Phantoms would fend off the struggles of the second and return to Normal Programming.  While a Pioneer player was in the box serving a minor for cross checking, the Phantoms Sean Wert would strike with his league-leading sixth goal of the season (assisted by Casey Rosenberg) to push the Phantoms into a 4-2 lead.  Just over three minutes later, the Phantoms newcomer Brett Kopinski would stage his first goal as a Phantom, as the former Hope College standout would receive a set-up feed from Matt Zehr with 7:11 remaining in the period to advance the Phantoms into a 5-2 lead.  Five minutes later, Kopinski would light the lamp again as Sean Wert and Matt Zehr would provide helpers on the sixth Phantom goal and second for Kopinski.  In the final 30 seconds of the game, the Phantoms Chad Manning would strike with a pair of goals 18-seconds apart to seal the win. Matt Mead and Kyle Clark would capture assists on the first Manning goal with 29 seconds remaining and Kyle Clark would stage the helper on Mannings second goal with 11 seconds remaining in regulation.  The Phantoms would capture the game 8-2 and as mentioned, keep pace with AFI for duel-control of the league lead.  The Phantoms would, for the first time this season, feature a 100%-filled roster for this Winter 2012 season with no subs.  On the game, the Phantoms would be ticketed on four penalties for 16 minutes as Kyle Clark would capture 12 of those minutes on two penalties (elbowing and misconduct).  Tim Vanoverloop returned to the Phantoms for the first time this season, as the oldest guy on the team returned from two-weeks off due to an injury he incurred while playing inline hockey at Rivertown Sports a few weeks ago.   The Phantoms will return to action on Sunday, October 28th at 9:30 as the Phantoms and AFI collide in a league-leaders battle at Walker Ice & Fitness.
